Environmental tectonics: the northern alpine foreland natural laboratory

Objective

The training of post-doctoral and doctoral researchers is a central component of EMTEL. The effective understanding and analysis of the factors that are producing the complex and often contradictory pattern of changes underpinning the emergence of the Information Society in Europe requires a critical mass of highly trained social science researchers. These researchers need to develop and apply sophisticated methodological skills that are in turn drawn from interdisciplinary approaches to the study of social and technological change. The training of the post-and pre-doctoral researchers in EMTEL involves:
- close supervision on specific projects in an advanced research environment
- attendance and full participation at each of six-monthly network meetings
- exchanges and secondments within the network
- involvement in the research training opportunities provided in graduate programmes in the universities or Centres
- attendance at relevant European and national conferences in the field
- participation in activities provided by industrial and commercial participants in the Network.
