Customised Clothing Tool For The Digitalisation Of The Textile Supply Chain

Obiettivo

CUTTING EDGE project is aimed at testing on field and fine tuning an E-Commerce solution for the Textile sector.

The CUTTING EDGE business idea starts from some of the CUTTING EDGE users partners. At present the CUTTING EDGE users partners are successfully experimenting the economical and technical feasibility of the ink-jet printer technology for producing textile products by means of a demonstration project (TIEPRINT Life project).

Under this assumption the CUTTING EDGE project wants to test and fine tune an E-commerce solution fully integrate with this technology and widely marketable in the marketplace at least as much as the new production technology.

The most important technological issue to be tested in CUTTING EDGE Trial application is the Web Server allowing to store and retrieve by a search engine based upon the wavelet technology, digitalised images of fabrics' drawings and to perform remote queries and searches in such database. This Web server is also the CUTTING EDGE Trial application core component. The CUTTING EDGE project intends to set up the Trial application from the key result of the FORMULA Esprit Project, which has seen involved one of the IT provider of the CUTTING EDGE project.

Objectives:
CUTTING EDGE Trial application is aimed at testing on field and fine tuning an E-Commerce solution for the Textile sector.

The main objectives of the CUTTING EDGE project are:
- To test and fine tune an E-commerce application allowing to store digitalised images of fabrics' drawings and to perform remote queries and search in such a database by means of a search engine based upon a wavelet technology.
- To integrate the E-commerce solution with a new production technology for textile based upon ink-jet printer for fabrics.
- To fully test and fine tuning the CUTTING EDGE solution in a real Textile supply chain made by the users partners.
- To fully exploit the CUTTING EDGE solution by means of the preferential channel of the IT providers of the project.

Work description:
The project workplan is structured around the following four main phases:

Phase 1: User Requirements specification for the trial application.
This is to establish the Overall Requirements for the CUTTING EDGE system and to define the Process and customer and Supplier needs in the domain of textile design, production and distribution. The seven industrial users and the consultant will work jointly to establish target specifications for a site acceptance test of the CUTTING EDGE system.

Phase 2: Set up and installation of the trial application.
This is for setting up the Trial application according with the users requirement specifications, for introducing the major organisational changes in the users involved and for training and coaching the users' employees in charge for the test site application. In these phases the three IT developers and the consultant will act together for setting up the trial applications according with the users requirements.

Phase 3: Measurement and evaluation of the trial application.
According with the users requirement specifications the consultant and the three IT providers will design a testing plan for each users and for the whole supply chain. Technical, organisational and business parameters will be defined for evaluating the trial application. The effectiveness of the training and coaching activities will be also evaluated during this phase. The evaluation activities results will be documented and continuously discussed with the seven users partners. During this phase will be created also an observer group for discussing all the major testing activity results of the trial application.

Phase 4: Refinement and final assessment of the trial application.
In this phase the three IT providers will refine the trial application according with the results of the evaluation activities of the first six months. In the same time the consultant will support the seven users in introducing the major organisational changes for better support the trial application. Training courses and coaching activities will be also refined according with the first six months evaluation.
The IT provider and the consultant will design the e detailed exploitation strategy and plans for the project.

Milestones:
M5 - Trial application settled up;
M7 - Trial application fully installed at users premises;
M16 - trial application fully approved, refined and fine tuned.

Expected results:
- The FORMULA Web Server integrated with a images database fully developed;
- A search engine based on the wavelet algorithm developed in FORMULA project fully developed;
- CUTTING EDGE solution fully integrated with the ink jet printer;
- production cost reduction of more than 15%;
ordering cost reduction of 30%;
ordering time reduction of 40%
