Natural analogues to the storage of co2 in the geological environment (NASCENT)

Objective

Geological sequestration offers the potential to store all of Europe's CO2 emissions for geological timescales. NASCENT will address key issues of geological CO2 sequestration by using natural CO2 occurrences as analogues for geological repositories of anthropogenic CO2.The issues include the long-term safety and stability of storage underground and the potential environmental effects of leakage from an underground reservoir. The project will provide clear information to assess and support management of the potential risks to the environment and thus, it will make a direct contribution to the environmental protection objectives of the programme. Implementation of the results will be ensured through the vertically-integrated consortium of researchers and stakeholders
