Living conditions, lifestyles and health

Objectif

A multi-level study of how the health of the populations in Russia, Belarus, Ukraine, Moldova, Kazakhstan, Kingston, Armenia and Georgia is affected by a variety of factors: tobacco and alcohol consumption, socio-economic conditions, social capital, psycho-social attitudes, cultural and ethnic factors and life-style generally. Analysis will be based upon the collection and coding of aggregate level statistics, a sample survey of 18500 respondents, and detailed environmental studies of 4 sub-regions: three in Russia, Ukraine and Kazakhstan and one in Chernobyl. By combining different data sources the study would help to understand which factors are most important in leading to better or worse health outcomes in different parts of the former Soviet Union. This will be fed back to participants and interested parties at a local level and disseminated at an international level in order to inform the best measures for health improvement.
