Practical Tools and Methods for Corporate Knowledge Management - Sharing and Capitalising Engineering Know-How in the Concurrent Enterprise

Obiettivo

The CORMA project aims to develop a knowledge management environment to support the new product development processes in "Concurrent Enterprises" in the telecommunication sector.

The environment will comprise
(1) methods for customer-supplier knowledge transfer, share and capitalisation in extended supply chains,
(2) a software system for rapid management of corporate knowledge with specific user-friendliness,
(3) human centred approaches for motivating employees to share knowledge and for alleviating individual and company fears and
(4) training and promotional material for increasing the awareness about the benefits of knowledge management.
The CORMA results will be applied and validated in pilot projects in a supply chain in the telecommunication sector

Objectives:
CORMA aims to develop a knowledge management environment consisting of methods, tools, knowledge representation models and training materials to support the product development process in "Concurrent Enterprises". The environment shall be validated in pilot projects in a supply chain in the telecommunication sector.
Particularly, the project aims
.to capture and analyse industrial requirements and identify the key barriers for effective knowledge management
.to develop a holistic framework for inter-organisational customer-supplier knowledge transfer, share and capitalisation in extended supply chains
.to develop a software system for rapid transfer, share and capitalisation of corporate knowledge which allows to significantly reduce the time needed for knowledge management
.to develop human centred approaches for knowledge management that will motivate employees and alleviate individual and company fears
.to develop training modules, materials and user guidelines to support the effective implementation
.Work description:
The project will start by analysing industrial knowledge management practice and identifying existing strengths and weaknesses.
Barriers for effective knowledge management will be examined, countermeasures suggested and the user requirements defined. Existing tools and methods will be analysed for their re-usability for the CORMA environment. Methods for inter-organisational and human centred knowledge management will be developed considering especially the issue of transfer in the supply chain and utmost user-friendliness. Dynamic knowledge models for structuring the knowledge in a rapidly changing domain will be developed. Existing tools will be analysed in usability experiments for their user-friendliness. A software platform for rapid knowledge management in the supply chain will be specified and developed. It will comprise four modules: Knowledge Capturer, Processor, Distributor and Navigator. Training and promotional material including a CBT will be developed in order to train the end users and increase awareness about knowledge management. The developments will be customised for the industrial partners in pre-pilots by instantiating the knowledge models and interfacing the software system to existing company systems. Pilot projects for applying the CORMA methods and tools will be carried out at four partners. Each will cover both inter- and intra-organisational knowledge management. Nokia, Filtronic and AT&S represent a supply chain and CSC Ploenzke will use the results for consultancy of external partners. The pilots will be evaluated for their socio-economic impact. In parallel to these RTD activities, the project results will be continuously disseminated trough various communication channels as there are WWW, publications, demonstrator platform, best practice report, workshops etc. An exploitation strategy will be defined and put into practice.
