Genes controlling neuronal specification and differentiation

Ziel

The generation of different neuronal phenotypes during development is a prerequisite for the function of the nervous system. The present proposal is focused on the role of major transcriptional control genes that are involved invertebrate neuron specification and differentiation. We aim to understand how their expression is controlled and how they exert their function. The functional analysis will include the identification of their target genes and the characterisation of the genetic and cellular context required for their function. A further aim of the project is to begin to understand the molecular link between neuron generation and withdrawal from the cell cycle.
