First sino-european workshop on immunogenetics and pathogenesis of gastric cancer.

Objectif

Gastric cancer (GC) is the second most common cancer world wide and the most common cancer in China. A collaborative study between the Beijing Cancer Institute and the National Cancer Institute (NIH-USA) has shown that some regions in China have world's highest prevalence of GC and accounts for 42% of deaths from all forms of cancer and shows no decline in mortality since a survey of 1972-1975. GC is therefore a public health issue of tragic proportion in China for which a range of remedial measures are urgently needed. In recognition of this problem the China National Center for Biotechnology Development (CNCBD) has agreed to give the proposed Sino-European workshop on GC a high priority support and has asked INCO- DEV program to support this initiative. The aim is to assemble European and Chinese experts to discuss state of the art issues in immunogenetics, molecular biology and other aspects of GC under the framework of INCO Research for Development.
