System for the development, management and support of strategic alliances

Cel

The goal of the SMART project is to develop an advanced software system that will empower and support managers of large as well as small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in all aspects of strategic alliance (SA) formation and management, to ensure sustainable and mutually-beneficial business relationships with partner enterprises. The key objectives are to enable SMEs to be more effective and efficient in their quest for successful teaming with strategic partners, and to successfully network with larger enterprises, thus enhancing SMEs chances of success and sustainable growth through business-led consensus and to enable enterprise managers to better understand and manage SAs, thus helping them to successfully establish and manage new supplier/consumer relationships.

The project will focus on a "System for the Development, Management and Support of Strategic Alliances" ("SMART"), which would result in an advanced software prototype (in English and French), complete with knowledge base, support and learning courseware. The prototype's functionalities would be tested and validated, to ensure that they enable enterprise managers to conceptualise, design, assess, resolve and manage all aspects of SAs, thus optimising performance, and significantly enhancing sustainability and overall success of strategic alliances and partner enterprises.

Objectives:
The goal of the SMART project is to develop an advanced software system that will empower and support managers of large as well as small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in all aspects of strategic alliance (SA) formation and management, to ensure sustainable and mutually-beneficial business relationships with partner enterprises.

The key objectives are to:
Enable SMEs to be more effective and efficient in their quest for successful teaming with strategic partners, and to successfully network with larger enterprises, thus enhancing SMEs chances of success and sustainable growth through business-led consensus.
Enable enterprise managers to better understand and manage SAs, thus helping them to successfully establish and manage new supplier/consumer relationships.

Work description:
A comprehensive work plan has been developed to achieve the project's objectives.
It consists of eleven inter-linked work packages (WPs), which would be performed sometimes concurrently, as follows:
Three scientific and technology related WPs -research, findings, analysis, process definition- internal and external:
.Critical success factors, metrics and benchmarks. Original research and analysis of best practices and success factors relating to strategic alliances (SAs).
.(WP2) Effective SA lifecycle process. Research and development of an effective and representative SA lifecycle process.
.(WP3) Integrated SMART methodology. Development and specification of an effective methodology for inception, design, development and management of SAs.
.(WP4) Five system specification, design, development, support, functionality- testing and industrial validation WPs: SMART model-shell specification & development. Development & testing of the model-shell software component of the prototype.
(WP5) SMART software development and documentation. Development & testing of the SMART software prototype including integration of all software components, ensuring the ability to run under different software environments.
(WP6) SMART software testing. Rigorous software testing of all possible permutations of users and applications and for each of the model-shells.
(WP7) SMART learning and support courseware. Development of all learning and support courseware related to SMART.
(WP8) SMART validation and acceptability tests. "Live" piloting of SMART system with selected companies.
(WP9) Three over-arching support and diffusion WPs: Project management. Ensuring the project is delivered on time, within budget and meeting all defined objectives and deliverables.
(WP1) Dissemination. Defining, planning and managing the promotion and dissemination the project and its benefits and outcomes.
(WP10) Exploitation. Developing a commercial implementation plan and integration into national and regional support programmes.
(WP11)
