Objective Natural transformation provides the human pathogen Streptococcus pneumoniae with genetic plasticity to adapt to environment. While the regulation of transformation is documented, DNA availability is not. We plan to investigate the genetic control and the mechanism of DNA release in S. pneumoniae.
