To promote the access of european researchers to the budapest research reactor

Cel

Description:
The Budapest Research Reactor (BRR), located in Budapest, is the largest neutron research facility in Central Europe. The 10 MW reactor power provides with a maximum thermal neutron flux of 2.2x1014 n/cm2s and with a fast neutron flux of 1x1014 n/cm2s. Due to its high flux BRR offers unique facilities for all forms of neutron research. KFKI Atomic Energy Research Institute operates the Budapest Research Reactor. For utilisation of the reactor in the field of basic research the Budapest Neutron Centre (BNC) has been set up by three academic research institutes. Around the Budapest Research Reactor, actually 12 instrumental stations are routinely operated in user system. Eight instruments for neutron scattering, radiography and activation analysis (small angle neutron scattering, triple axis sprectrometer, powder diffractometer, dynamic neutron radiography, static neutron radiography, prompt gamma activation analysis, reactor neutron activation analysis, biological channel) are offered for the European research community within the HPRI program. The facilities at BRR are improving continually. In 2000, a cold neutron source and a supermirror guide system were installed. A majority of instruments get a much-improved utilization with the cold neutrons.

Application:
Information on BNC and description of above mentioned eight outstanding instruments is available on Internet at: http://www.BNC.hu. Call for proposal is published twice a year by electronic and traditional mail. Further advertisements are placed in the specialised journal "Neutron News". The "BNC Progress Report" issued biannually, this report gives the description of the experimental stations and the brief summaries of the experiments.
