Centre de recherches du cyclotron

Objetivo

Description:

The Cyclotron Research Centre (CRC) of the Catholic University of Louvain at Louvain-la-Neuve operates three different cyclotrons for use by national and foreign experimental groups. Its unique character, in Europe and in the world, resides in the acceleration of very intense and pure radioactive beams in the low-energy region (0.2 to 10MeV per nucleon). These beams are most suitable for direct nuclear reaction cross-section measurements in the field of Nuclear Astrophysics and for Nuclear Physics experiments in the vicinity of the Coulomb barrier. Beams of 6He, 11C, 13N, 18F, 18Ne, 19Ne, 35Ar are routinely available and new beams of 7Be, 14O, and 15O are under development. Other beams available include light and heavy ions (from gaseous and solid elements), monokinetic fast neutron beams in the 20 to 80MeV range and very intense neutron beams for radiobiology and component testing. Experimental facilities include among others, a large reaction chamber, solid state detector arrays, a 4p neutron detector DEMON, the isotope separator on-line LISOL, and the Heavy ion Irradiation Facility (HIF) for SEE studies.

Application:

Experiment proposals should be submitted to the Cyclotron coordinator, Dr. Carmen Angulo (e-mail: angulo@cyc.ucl.ac.be).

Each proposal should cover the following topics:
i) general context and motivation;
ii) description of the experiment;
iii) equipment;
iv) timing and beam time required;
v) possible by-products of interest.

A completed beam time request form should accompany it. These forms can be obtained from the web site of the laboratory (http://www.cyc.ucl.ac.be). To get access, the Program Advisory Committee (PAC) should approve the proposal. The PAC meets twice a year (beginning of January and middle of June). Proposals must be sent about one month before the meeting of the PAC, e.g. by December 1st and May 15th of each year. For all questions concerning access to the CRC and financial support from the EC-HPRI contract, please contact the Cyclotron coordinator (C. Angulo).
