Objective
Monumental stone decay is due to the interaction between the material and environmental parameters and the consequence is a progressive increasing of stone porosity and weakening of the cohesion of the mineral structures. The sector of monumental repair and maintenance needs of safer and longer lasting treatments. The objective of the project is to introduce in this field innovative techniques for the conservation of calcareous monumental stones with very low environmental pollution. It is based on the use of bio-inducing macromolecules solutions (BIMSs) to growth new calcite crystals inside porosity, reinforcing the stone structure. The Bio-Mediated Treatment (BMT) will be firstly developed and evaluated in laboratory experiments and outdoor conditions, then validated on monumental sites applications.
