Scrap tyre rubber to combat traffic vibrations

Objectif

Europe currently scraps more than 300 million tyres annually, and this is set to increase in line with the rapid increase in the use of motor vehicles. Although grinding rubber is a well-known technology and readily available, the number of commercial applications for this rubber granulate is by far not sufficient to deal with the rubber waste. This project is proposed to investigate the application of rubber granulate as a vibration reduction embankment in road and railroad applications. The challenging idea is that the rubber particles will reduce traffic vibrations and associated noise. Hence, this project promises to kill two birds with one stone it effectively creates a new application for scrap tyre rubber and it will help to reduce vibrations and noise caused by road and railroad traffic.
