Objectif In the countries of the European Unio more than one third of the construction activities are in there furbishment of existing buildings. The consciousness of the people of the refurbishment of existing building stock will increase if economic and environmental advantages are explained and demonstrated. The benefits that will be gained are more evident, e.g. comfort, health, enjoyment, capital value, reduced running and maintenance costs as well as safeguard to the fluctuation in the energy price. The refurbishment and re-use of existing building is more sustainable than to demolish and construction of new ones. The refurbishment generates employment in the building industry. Culturally it is beneficial to renovate buildings of historical value, preserve and enhance the landmark in cities, towns and villages. A lot could be learnt from the refurbishment and it could and should be used in the design and implementation of new buildings.
