Efficient Industrial Waste-To-Energy Utilisation through Fuel Preparation and Advanced Bfb Combustion

Objective

To find a cost-effective method to recover energy from industrial refuse that is of less heterogeneous nature than MSW and that can be classified in such a way that its quality can be assured. In this manner the requirements for energy recovery will be less stringent than for MSW and for other unclassified waste streams. Still it is necessary to refine the technology for the combustion of these fractions such that consistent combustion quality can be upheld and that potential difficulties such as sintering, fouling and feeding problems etc, will not cause uncontrollable operational costs and production losses. The suitability of different industrial waste streams will be qualified as well as the volume of these streams in EU and a collection, handling and treatment strategy will be developed. A year round production of a storageable fuel will be developed and demonstrated in an integrated system with a district heat production plant which will have its major production in the cold win.
