A MULTI-AGENT TELE-SUPERVISION SYSTEM FOR ELDERLY CARE

Objetivo

Project TeleCARE aims to design and develop a framework for tele-supervision following a multi-agent approach, including both stationary and mobile agents and applied to facilitate independent lifestyles among elderly people using remote services from health and care centres. The system will be developed around a set of Internet based "sites" designed to provide expert supervision and care facilities to improve the quality of life for the elderly person and their families. The TeleCARE elderly support system will give consideration to a number of specific issues that run horizontal across all TeleCARE services, such as, the safety of the elderly person, possible loss of sense faculties, privacy, and, integrity of information held on each elderly person.

DESCRIPTION OF WORK
Project TeleCARE intends to develop an infrastructure, complete with support services that will facilitate an independent lifestyle and thus improve the quality of life for elderly people and their families. The project will begin by defining user requirements in terms of functionality for both elderly user and care professional. An overall architecture for an elderly support system, based on the Internet, will be designed. To facilitate the implantation of the TeleCARE solution, an assessment of the socio-economic, ethical and organisational impacts of the technology and the implications for work design among care professionals, will be conducted. A multi-agent infrastructure will be developed complete with multi-agent support platform and mechanisms to support mobile agents with planning and error recovery mechanisms to support tele-supervision. The issue of information management will be addressed by creating a federated platform independent information management framework. Because of the sensitive nature of the information exchanged in the elderly care sector, the project TeleCARE will develop a comprehensive system to enable the provision of secure transmission between users. The system will take account of correct identification of users, security of communication, privacy of transmitted data and security of communications among remote centres and end users to allow adequate response in case of failure of the home equipment or loss of communication between them. This also includes the creation of data systems to provide for possible failure of the system. Furthermore the project will develop novel and intelligent user interfaces to assist people in compensating for their respective handicaps. The TeleCARE solution will be tested through the development of demonstration scenarios. Exploitation and dissemination strategies will be elaborated to bring project results to the market.
