Objective The main aim of this proposal is to develop a document supporting metrology of qualitative chemical analysis by describing the state of the art of the topic and establishing the most relevant aspects which define this type of analytical information in a modern way, namely: measurement standards, traceability, analytical properties, uncertainties. After a careful identification of both analytical tools providing binary yes/no responses (e.g. sensors, screening systems, immunoassays, among others) and relevant application areas (e.g. environmental food analysis, among others), practical approaches to the systematic metrological consideration of qualitative chemical analysis will be proposed in detail and directed both to the end users (analysts and clients) and European bodies related to Metrology in Chemistry.
