8th IFAC/IFIP/IFORS/IEA Symposium on Analysis, Design and Evaluation of Human-Machine Systems, Kassel, Germany

Objective

The IFAC HMS 2001 "Analysis, Design, and Evaluation of Human-Machine-Systems" is acknowledged world-wide as the premier international gathering of leading experts, industrialists and academics in the field Human-Machine-Interactions The conference provides a key forum for dissemination of leading edge technologies and includes a presentation of state-of-the-art applications of Human-Machine Systems. Female researchers are especially encouraged to participate by the organisers. The last decades have shown that resources on earth are limited. This is valid not only for energy and water but also for air and ground transport capacity. The approach of this conference is to see human beings, machine, and environment as a whole system and optimise interaction for the benefit of all.

The upcoming multimedia capabilities provide rising technical possibilities for interaction modes at falling cost. Thus, we now have a chance to cope increasing system complexity by utilising the human perception on different sensory channels in a more efficient manner. A greater choice of interaction styles also offers the benefits of technical systems to more people with less technical training and experience. Taking into account new media and interaction styles it is a great chance of a conference like this to bring people with different backgrounds and experience together to exchange their views leading to unconventional solutions for existing problems. The topics presented by the invited lectures are of state-of-the-art and cover the wide range of conference topics adequately.

Due to the highly attractive programme and the number of highly reputed researchers from all over the world the IFAC HMS 2001 presents definitely several highlights in the different topic-oriented sessions, so that the participants will get an overview about the current trends in Human- Machine-Systems. The conference provides a key forum for dissemination of leading edge technologies and includes a presentation of state-of -the-art applications of Human-Machine Systems. It aims to stimulate contact between specialists active in academic research and industrial development in all areas of the related measurement and sensor techniques and to promote scientific exchange within the European Community and between Europe and other parts of the world.
