Development of an advanced rotor for tilt-rotor

Objective

The proposal addresses the development of a full-scale rotor suited to an advanced European tilt-rotor configuration. This is a challenging issue because such a rotor must be capable of providing all the tilt-rotor required controls, accepting the various loads, in particular those brought about by the tilting movements, producing good performance data and taking account other constraints: low external noise, comfort, affordability, reliability and safety.
The aim of project DART is to tackle this important problem and to prepare a future European tilt-rotor consistent with the market requirements by:
- Reducing the risk related to its rotor development.
- Gaining a better understanding of the technological issues associated with tilt-rotor rotor hub and blades design.
- Bringing significant improvements compared to actual helicopters or turboprop aircraft, especially in term of performance data, external noise, vibration level, safety and affordability standards.
