Integrated systems for forecasting urban meteorology, air pollution and population exposure

Objective

The installation of FUMAPEX is based on requests from authorities for precise forecasting of urban air pollution (UAP) episodes to fulfil European Air Quality Directives. Operational Urban Air Quality Information and Forecasting Systems (UAQIFS) are already implemented in several European cities and it is likely that such systems will be more widespread in the future. The quality of these systems mainly depends on the mapping of emissions, the air quality model, and the meteorological forecast data in urban areas. FUMAPEX focuses on the quality of numerical weather prediction applications in urban areas, and of developing interfaces from NWP to UAP and population exposure (PE) models. The ultimate goal of the project is to produce improvements in presently available UAQIFS. The improved UAQIFS will be applied in 4 European cities, and local authorities will be directly involved both in the design, and as end-users of the system.

Fields of science (EuroSciVoc)

Programme(s)

Multi-annual funding programmes that define the EU’s priorities for research and innovation.

Topic(s)

Calls for proposals are divided into topics. A topic defines a specific subject or area for which applicants can submit proposals. The description of a topic comprises its specific scope and the expected impact of the funded project.

Call for proposal

Procedure for inviting applicants to submit project proposals, with the aim of receiving EU funding.

Funding Scheme

Funding scheme (or “Type of Action”) inside a programme with common features. It specifies: the scope of what is funded; the reimbursement rate; specific evaluation criteria to qualify for funding; and the use of simplified forms of costs like lump sums.
