Filter to trap and retract emboli or foreign matters from blood

Objective

JOMED does research into a new generation of emboli filters based on a new concept leading to a safe and effective design, that :
* does not significantly impede blood flow;
* that reduces stress applied to the vessel wall;
* that conforms to the vessel wall ;
* that may be sized for use in a small vasculature ;
* that may be used in a tortuous anatomy without increased delivery complications. JOMED is researching a novel concept for product design, more particularly, the area of research focuses on a resiliently self-expanding foam filter, which has the ability to capture and remove emboli, thrombus, and foreign bodies from a patient's vasculature. The foam filter should be attached to a (guide) wire, which facilitates the use in combination with a stent delivery system, or balloon catheter. The foam is suited for both conformably sealing against a vessel wall and for capturing emboli within one or more recesses. The foam can have a pore size that allows blood, but not dangerously sized emboli, to pass. The foam is elastomeric, allowing the filter to self-expand from a collapsed delivery configuration to an expanded deployed configuration. Use of foam permits the device to be contracted to very small diameters for delivery without a delivery catheter, or with delivery catheters having diameters as small as 3 F.
