Sustainable potato production in andean urban and peri-urban areas by combining bio-compositing and microbial inoculants.

Cel

Potato is common in urban and urban-urban areas in the Andes. Production in this region is low as a result of biotic and biotic soil constraints, and the recourse to pesticides and fertilizers is frequently too expensive. Recycling of organic waste into compost and management of microbial soil inhabitants, which positively impact the growth and health of plants, have been proposed as major agricultural practices to reduce chemical inputs and to improve the ecological potential and sustainability of soils in urban and urban-urban systems. With this respect, the proposal aims to develop and investigate the combination of composted waste from agro-industries with native microbial inoculants in order to
(1) add value to urban agro-industry waste,
(2) reduce chemical-dependence of small-scale agriculturists and
(3) stimulate local collective capacities to develop composting systems and management of microbial inoculants.
