New measurement science for the 21st century food business

The focus of the measurement science group at Unilever Colworth is to develop and apply new measurement capabilities to help improve the overall quality and safety of Unilever's products. Fellows will be fully integrated into multidisciplinary teams to work on projects supporting one of the three major current objectives :
i) Development of non-invasive measurement capabilities to help characterize the composition, dynamics and microstructure generated during the processing and storage of foods through to their impact on the human body.
ii) Exploitation of DNA arraying technology to explore new applications in human, plant and microbial genomics, reflecting Unilever's interests in Foods.
iii) Strategic development of measurement science capabilities to support the work of Unilever's global centre for Safety and Environmental Assurance (SEAC) which is based at Colworth. The group has considerable experience of hosting and training graduates and postgraduates from many cultural backgrounds and Fellows will receive full training in the use of state-of-the-art instrumentation and techniques (e.g. MRI, confocal Raman, genomics) and industrial research project management. They will also have the opportunity to access complementary expertise in the group's extensive external collaborative network.
