Obiettivo The objective of the project is to reveal general mechanism of electron-excited states formation in bioluminescent reactions occurring in different luminous organisms. The hypothesis on involvement of the upper electron-excited states of a bioluminescent emitter in a bioluminescent process is suggested. It should to be verified in bioluminescent reactions catalysed by enzymes of different luminous organisms (luminous bacteria, firefly, aquaria), which are intensively under investigation now. The series of chemically inert fluorescent compounds will be chosen for using them as energy acceptors in bioluminescent enzyme systems. (The energy of the fluorescent states of the compounds should exceed this of the bioluminescent emitters and the absorption spectra of the compounds should not overlap with the bioluminescence spectra for excluding of trivial light absorption and intermolecular resonance S-S transfer.) Sensitised fluorescence of the compounds will be found while bioluminescent reactions proceeding. The energy of the upper electron-excited states will be determined, analysing the existence of the sensitised fluorescence in the in the series of the compounds with different energy of fluorescent states (S1-). The mechanism (dipole or collision) of the intermolecular energy transfer will be accepted by investigating the interactions of the compounds with enzymes in time-resolved anisotropy measurements. The possibility of increase the bioluminescence yields by means of IR-radiation, involving T1 - T2- transitions of the bioluminescent emitters will be studied while bioluminescent reactions proceeding.
