MOLECULAR BIOPHYSICS IN SINGLE LIVING CELLS APPROACHED BY OPTICAL MICROSPECTROSCOPIES : DRUG-CELL AND CELL-CELL INTERACTIONS IN CYTOTOXIC MECHANISMS

Objectif

Molecular Biophysics has reached the point where it can move from model system studies to a direct intracellular approach of molecular events in single livingcells.Five Laboratories of Molecular Biophysics belonging to three European Countries propose to bring together their know how in optical microspectrometries and cellular biology in order to develop this new approach at the single cell level, to push back its limits and to demonstrate on some examples its advantages over more classical biophysical or biochemical approaches. They will concentrate their efforts on the investigation of the mechanisms of action of two families of drugs used in chemotherapy and of the mechanisms of cell-cell interaction in cytotoxicity.A part of their efforts will be devoted to the introduction of new physical parameters in the analysis(time resolution, extension of the excitation wavelength range)in order to fully exploit the possibilities offered by these spectroscopies.
