Statistical estimation of parameters of point and fibre processes by transformed realizations

Cel

One often needs to estimate some parameters of a random function when data is a set of transformed realizations, where the transformation belongs to some known class. For example, electrically active defects randomly distributed in a solid state (a stochastic point process), usually, have to be investigated by distribution of electrostatic intensity, which is a transformation of the initial process (and is not a point process). Or, a set of fibres, forming a paper sheet (a stochastic fibre process), is investigated by its video camera image (which, generally, is not a fibre process).
In many of such situations, the transformed process can be described as the result of a certain integral transformation of the initial process (in the simplest case, it is a convolution, but, also more complicated transformations arise).
The aim of this project is to develop methods for the estimation of basic parameters of point and fibre processes (intensity, parameters of fibre orientation and length) from transformed realizations. First typical transformations arising in applications will be studied. Then estimators will be constructed and investigated using ideas of statistics of random processes and of the theory of inverse problems.
