Obiettivo The increase in automobile model variety, coupled with relatively small growth in vehicle sales, has led to a number of cost and time to market reduction technologies and processes designed to maintain profitability. The aim of the project is to investigate the performance characteristics of a number of low cost tool materials. Practical tests and computer numerical simulations will be implemented to assess the wear coefficients, durability, galling tendencies and forming effects of each material. The results will define the specification of each tool material needed to meet certain press forming scenarios and production volumes for reducing the new vehicle time to market lead times.
