Objective The in-time prediction of the product quality becomes more and more important in continuous casting due to the high demands on product quality and the reinforced trend to hot-charging. The aims of the project are to improve the accuracy of the quality prediction by combining different types of quality models and to make this "hybrid" solution available for the daily operation at the plants. Therefore quality models like analytical, statistical and knowledge based have to be integrated in one overall system. Such "hybrid models" will be able to predict the slab or billet quality during its production or immediately afterwards better than existing systems. The on-line visualisation of the predicted quality to the operators and a tool for the data-based analysis of the reasons for quality deviations will also be features of the overall system.
