Micropollutant emissions (heavy metals, PCB, PAH, BTEX) from sinter plants and possible reduction strategies

Objective

Sinter plants are significant sources of micro-pollutants, which are poorly characterised. The aims of the project are to characterise micro-pollutant emissions from sintering and to investigate process-integrated strategies to reduce these emissions. Sampling and analytical methods will be developed and validated for these species in order to achieve these aims. The programme includes actions to understand the formation mechanisms and to establish the sintering conditions that may reduce stack emissions to build an inventory of these emissions and to propose some optimised abatement ways. Furthermore, sampling and analysis procedures for metals and for trace organic compounds including PCBs will be established.
