Investigation of the influence of the pre-hydroforming processes and development of characterisation methods for the testing of steel semi-products for hydroforming

Objective

Hydroforming has important environmental and social benefits due to its weight reduction capability. A major obstacle in hydroforming of steel semi-products is the lack of a unified test method for determining their hydro-formability. An effort in understanding the evolution of the steel properties during the pre- and hydroforming processes is also needed. This research project sets the necessary steps for evaluating the current tests systems and for following the whole manufacturing chain investigating the evolution of the hydroforming properties of the steel on it. The result of the program will be a unified test method and guidelines needed for increasing the competitiveness of the steel products.
