Fatigue guidelines for thin high strength steel joint structures

Objectif

Traditionally the automotive body-in-white structure is constructed using a lot of spot weld joints. The increasing demand for mass efficiency asks for alternatives as the application of high strength steels and new joining techniques. The objective of the project is to evaluate the fatigue performance of joint structures of high strength steel using novel advanced joining techniques as laser welding, self piercing rivets, clinching and adhesive bonding. Fatigue analysis software tools will be developed to allow automotive design engineers to predict the fatigue performance of structures in which these type of joints are applied when used to access a full structure analysis with commonly used FEM analysis codes.
