Objectif To improve the hot strip quality of mini mills a concept for an on-line quality control system will be developed, implemented and some aspects will be demonstrated. The consideration of the interrelations between the different process steps concerning quality control is of main interest. To solve this problem and to investigate the relationships between process, plant and quality variables databases technologies will be applied. Because of the importance of surface quality the improvement of this feature is selected as demonstration example to show the suitability of the on-line quality control concept.
