Objective This research project will investigate the development of shape and residual stress in flat products during cold levelling, and the mechanisms governing the distortion of such cold levelled products during subsequent cutting and slitting operations. The shape and residual stress after uncoiling of hot rolled strip for cold levelling and for further internal processing are also to be studied. Existing mathematical models will be used to define upstream process operating parameters that will produce material of optimal condition for entry to the levelling process, and levelling engineering condition and operational practice, for plate, which stays flat after cutting and slitting.
