Cel The main aim of this research project is to design and model a Si-deoxidation process that will provide steels with high plasticity inclusions (SiO2-rich), and hence fatigue performance, for use as high specification special steels for the automotive industry. The work programme will be based on SiCr spring steels for practical purposes, but the conclusions will be applicable to all high strength steels with high fatigue requirements for future use in the production of automotive components.
