Objetivo The economic production of hot metal with consistent quality requires a stable and smooth operation of the blast furnace. The continuous observation of the raceway can make a considerable contribution to the monitoring and prediction of the state of progress. The aim of the project is to investigate and develop new raceway monitoring systems that will enable continuous control on a significant number of tuyeres. Emphasis will be laid on the use of visual observations, image analysis, raceway temperature monitoring and various spectrographic analysis systems. Using furnace operating data and invasive techniques like core drilling will allow correlating raceway observations with furnace behaviour. The expected improved process prediction will assist the BF-operators in identifying the major factors controlling the uniformity of furnace operation and provide the basis for advanced operational control systems.
