Obiettivo As a result of the project, the consortium has been successful in developing new environmentally acceptable lubricating systems for warm forging. Both partners developed slug coatings and die lubricants with excellent lubricating properties. All new developed lubricants and slug coatings are mineral-oil free and can successfully be used over the complete temperature range of warm forging. In dependence of the area of application, the best of the new developed products were tested in different combinations. In production of CV-joints, bevel gears and bearing races were manufactured in forging operations of solid forward, can backward or lateral extrusion. Very good results were achieved with the tests during the last project year. The tool life increases in comparison to the common tool life at the beginning of the project. Extended trials will show, if this excellent results will be reconfirmed. The tests and the trials within the scope of this project were accompanied by investigation of FISIA on the chemical and toxicological properties of the lubricants as well as on the effect on the environment by use of the lubricating systems with regard to emissions, waste water and other waste products. The economic analyses show very promising results. Positive economic effects were calculated at all project partners, where the new developed lubricating systems were applied. The concluding assessment on the results of this project is that the most objectives of the project are achieved. A finale assessment concerning especially tool life can first be made after a longer period of industrial application as planned in the exploitation report.Warm forming of steel and other metal alloys combine the advantage of cold and hot forming, these being the practically unlimited forming capacity, the arbitrary variety of forms and the wide workpiece material spectrum of hot forming combined with the high dimensional and shape accuracy of cold forming. However, the acceptance that warm forming has found does not correspond to its advantages and the initial hopes. A reason for this is the use of lubricants for tool lubrication which on one hand severely load the environment and on the other hand, due to the enormous contamination of the forging shop, both worsen the working conditions and impair the productivity and flexibility of the metal forming plant. The objectives pursued with this study are:1. Increasing the economy and expanding the area of application of the method,2. Ecological improvement of the manufacturing process and reducing the environmental load.Achieving these objectives will create the prerequisites for the full utilization of the advantages of warm forming compared with conventonal cold and hot forming, decisively improve working conditions, increase the competitiveness of the manufactured parts and thus guarantee a breakthrough of this method into industry.
