Objective In rolling numerous regulating mechanisms having shafts, gears, bearings and rollers are subjected to high stress and there is a need for selective, fast and economic maintenance measures. The aim is to develop largely automated and objective monitoring of the state of production plant in the steel industry, to develop suitable sensors and measuring systems or to improve them and adapt them to specific conditions of use.
