Objective This project is designed to develop the prototype magnetically operated secondary inlet valve The valve added to existing cylinder heads can improve combustion and emission control in gas and diesel truck engines and in smaller higher revving engines. The valve lift and timing are completely free controllable throughout the cycle, independent of the mechanical drive. The valve is a practical adaptation of both throttle free load control and the Miller Cycle. This project takes the prototype design of the magnetically operated secondary inlet valve and creates design tools to allow pre production valves to be developed. Wave and CFD design tools will be used, optimised valves made and validated. Reduced CO2, particle- and NOx emissions are possible to EuroV and better. The design tool when validated to 2000 rpm will then be used to develop the valves for 4000 and 6000 rpm. Wear tests will be simulated and materials evaluated for reliability and life.
