Objective In this joint research project, INSA, IRSID, BAM and BFI propose to improve and compare the methods of real-time radiography and automatic evaluation of X-ray photographs. The advantage of such systems is the objective and reproducible location of defects and their classification without the limitations of human judgement in interpreting X-ray photographs. The products to be inspected would be welds of thicknesses up to 60 mm and eventually hot and cold rolled plate (thickness range 0.2 mm to 3 mm) from various sources. The work, which will be coordinated among the four applicants, will be divided up as follows: - INSA will implement and test software with processing on an existing system; - IRSID will mainly carry out comparative tests with other means of non-destructive testing; - BAM will develop evaluation of the characteristic parameters of imaging devices; - BFI will work out the image processing algorithms.
