Objectif The main objective is to combine precipitation measurements from rain gauge and weather radar detain complex terrain optimally, i.e. by reducing bias and variance of the resulting precipitation analysis. A new method which takes advantage of the error independence of gauge and radar measurements and uses block kriging and Bayesian combination conjunctively was developed at the host institution. The innovation compared to traditional methods lies in the reduction of both bias and variance of the resulting estimates. The new method will be adapted for use with data gathered by gauges and radar in Austria's complex topography. The results of the new method will be compared to the results of the conventional techniques. Additionally a new theoretical non-steady state test case will be developed to test the performance of methods such as empirical exponential weighting or co-kriging as well as the new method. training and impact for applicant:* Bayesian and geostatistical methods for observational data analysis* new method of precipitation analysis that fully exploits radar and rain gauge measurements* learning from the leaders in the field* working in an internationally accepted and well known institution* impact of precipitation for hydrological and natural hazards (flooding) applications* preparation to work in natural hazards related jobs after the fellowship impact for host:* application of their new method to complex terrain* application of their new method in another EC country* development of a theoretical non-steady test case for various analysis methods Champ scientifique natural sciencescomputer and information sciencesdata sciencenatural sciencesphysical sciencesastronomyplanetary sciencesplanetary geologyengineering and technologyelectrical engineering, electronic engineering, information engineeringinformation engineeringtelecommunicationsradio technologyradarnatural sciencesearth and related environmental sciencesphysical geographynatural disasters Programme(s) FP5-HUMAN POTENTIAL - Programme for research, technological development and demonstration on "Improving the human research potential and the socio-economic knowledge base" (1998-2002) Thème(s) Data not available Appel à propositions Data not available Régime de financement RGI - Research grants (individual fellowships) Coordinateur UNIVERSITY OF BOLOGNA Contribution de l’UE Aucune donnée Adresse Via Zamboni 67 40127 BOLOGNA Italie Voir sur la carte Coût total Aucune donnée
