Influence of tramp elements on stainless steel

Objectif

The aim of the project is to obtain a certain number of ingots from experimental castings of fixed basic composition containing varying amounts of the elements P/As/Cu and Sn. Samples will be taken from the above-mentioned ingots for hot-drawing tests at temperatures in the 1,050-1,250° C range which will enable reductions in cross-section to be correlated with contaminant levels for each operating temperature. Samples will then be obtained from these ingots for shaping into test sheet with a view to correlating the hot ductility of the as-cast samples with that of the as-wrought samples at the same temperatures. These sheet samples will be used to test general mechanical properties at ambient temperature, susceptibility to intergranular corrosion and general corrosion in typical areas of use. Lastly, it is planned to produce industrial-scale castings in order to check the equilibrium results obtained in the laboratory tests.
