Cel
Aerosol particles possess a high degree of variability in the atmosphere and there is considerable uncertainty in knowledge of their physical and chemical properties. Moreover there is a severe lack of directly accessible coordinated aerosol data in the community, which is needed for air quality assessment, model evaluation, input to regional models, and remote sensing validation. The Project will develop a validated aerosol database, not currently available, covering most of the European region, and directly accessible to users through the web. In addition it will provide aerosol mapping of Europe using a combination of ground-based data coupled with satellite, Lidar observations and modelling inputs. Scientific strategies for future aerosol activities will be established. Training and transfer of skills to young scientists and data users will also be a thrust of the Project.
