Improving the quality of life in large urban distressed areas

Objectif

Most European cities have large urban areas suffering environmental, economical and social distress that results in a high level of political pressure to make rapid improvements Most European cities have large urban areas suffering environmental, economical and social distress that results in a high level of political pressure to make rapid improvements to the quality of life. The LUDA project addresses major strategic planning and development issues with special consideration of the take-off phase as the most crucial and difficult phase of rehabilitation processes. It aims to help decision makers facing the complex problems in large urban distressed areas by facilitating exchange of experience between cities in an European context through a learning process and networking, by analysing problems, by developing methods and measures of improvement, by formulating respective policy recommendations for initiating rehabilitation as well as supporting the implementation of key projects. In addition, from a scientific perspective LUDA serves to enhance the knowledge about the phenomenon of large urban distressed areas.
