Objective The project addresses the following objectives:. To develop new methods to increase output of relatively resistant oysters. To gain an understanding of the vectors of infection and more accurately assess-risk. To develop method designed to disrupt the life cycle of the parasite, leading to its eradication. To screen for immune parameters in the flat oyster with the objective of identifying the basis of increased resistance observed in the Rossmore group in CRAFT 1 (CT98 9101). These parameters could be targeted in oysters to try to select resistant oysters from natural populations, to boost resistance to this parasite and could also serve to 'tag' the-relatively resistant oyster.
