Network on european women's rights

Objective

The NEWR thematic network responds to a pan-European need for the combining of expertise with regard to women's rights as human rights. The topic of women's rights addresses fundamental issues in European policy, such as gender, citizenship, EU enlargement and structural change. The network will contribute to the creation of a European-wide socio-economic knowledge to aid European policy-making, focusing on four themes of pressing importance: trafficking, reproductive rights, citizenship and political participation, and access to social rights. Subsidiary and multidisciplinarity are respected by adopting a bottom-up methodology through which a permanent dialogue mechanisms established. The network will draw on the expertise of the lead UK partner in coordinating projects and using innovative methods of dissemination. Over the duration of the project nine workshops will be held (eight by associate partners). A final conference will expand the network further and a programme of study will be drawn up. NEWR will function as an ongoing and dynamic source of expertise for policy-makers across Europe and a resource for future research.
