Objective The principle objective of this accompanying measure (AM) is to identify research orientations which contribute to the sustainable development of natural resources. This AM is concerned with a gendered perspective of change and adaptability in fishing communities in coastal West Africa. Taking a livelihoods approach, research will examine how, in a context of increase globalisation, economic reforms and environmental degradation, communities as a whole adapt to change and how gender relations within those communities evolve to absorb the shocks and stresses placed upon their livelihoods. The main activity of the AM is a workshop in Benin.
