Objective The need for improved and sustainable- systems of land use and animal production is highlighted in FP5. Forage legumes have a potential for improving sustainability by reducing requirements for fertilisers and concentrate feeds, but have been little adopted in northern Europe. A multi-disciplinary project in FP4 (LEGSIL) has made much progress in providing a sound technical basis for the use of forage legumes in that area. The objective of the proposal is to achieve rapid evaluation and dissemination of the results of LEGSIL through northern Europe. This will be achieved by holding a Workshop involving invited experts from throughout the region with its subsequent publication and the production of booklets targeted to farmers and advisors in different parts of northern Europe.
