Towards the era of personal services at home and everywhere

Objective

European citizens own a large number of devices with different capabilities ranging from TV to smart phones, PCs or set-top boxes. The ability to exchange data and access external services from these devices is limited which severely hampers the effectiveness of personalisation. This in turn affects the usability and thus mass- market adoption of advanced audio-visual networked services.

The ePerSpace project addresses the major challenge to "make it happen". ePerSpace project aims at significantly increasing the user acceptance of networked audiovisual systems and applications at home and virtually anywhere by developing innovative personalised value-added networked services. With the integration of the telecom global networks and the home audiovisual and networking sectors, ePerSpace will solve existing interoperability problems in personalisation data exchange, services, context adaptation and management of service platforms.

From a social and business perspective, ePerSpace will develop user adoption and business models focussing on mass- market services enabling seamless cooperation of multimedia user platforms and devices to access anywhere personalised services. Dissemination activities including trials, user surveys and demonstration will be instrumental for that purpose. ePerSpace objectives will be realised through 4 major work areas:-The Home Platform providing the means to exchange audiovisual content between user terminals and home equipment-Global Network Integration and Interoperability offering innovative seamless access by sharing user profiles in a secure manner-Home and Personal Devices building unified personal environments-Rich Media Object Management supplying the tools for content creators to make optimal use of the infrastructure. ePerSpace will start from past results gained in past European projects(@HOM and YOUNSTER)and will bring together 20 partners(telecom operators, research institutes, universities and technology providers).
