Gate2Growth Incubator Forum

Objective

The Gate2Growth Incubator Forum is a pan-European network of professional managers of technology incubators linked to research institutes and universities. It aims at raising professional standards and the exchange of experience among incubators at European level.

Network Management: A first Board was selected to steer the Incubator Forum's activities. It is composed of:
- Bradstock Paul, OBE, Oxford Innovation, Oxford, United Kingdom;
- Gulinski Jacek, Poznan Science and Technology Park, Poznan, Poland;
- Pozzolo Prof. Vincenzo, Incubatore di Imprese del Politecnico, Torino, Italy;
- Talbotier Gilles, Grenoble Alpes Incubation, Grenoble, France3 Board Meetings were held in February, May and October 2003.

Membership development:
The Incubator Forum started Member recruitment in January 2003 and had 32 members based in 17 different European countries by 30.09.03. Good Practice Workshops;
- Good Practice Workshop n°1;
- Incubation and Seed FundsThe first good practice Workshop of the Gate2Growth Incubator Forum took place in Grenoble (4, 5 and 6 June 2003). The Workshop dealt with "Incubation and Seed Funds" and was co-organised by the Network Secretariat and Mr Gilles Talbotier (GR-A-IN, Grenoble Alpes Incubation), a Board Member of the Incubator Forum.13 Members of the Incubator Forum coming from 8 European countries participated in the Workshop.

Good Practice Workshop n°2 - PreincubationThe second Good Practice Workshop of the Gate2Growth Incubator Forum took place in Stuttgart (7-8-9 September 2003). It was co-organised with Innovation und Bildung Hohenheim GmbH (IBH). It focussed on "Preincubation".26 Members of the Incubator Forum coming from 17 European countries participated in the Workshop.
The Gate2Growth Incubator Forum is a pan-European network of professional managers of technology incubators and incubators linked to research institutes and universities. It is supported by the European Commission as part of its Gate2Growth Initiative and co-ordinated on behalf of the European Commission by inno AG. The ultimate objective of the Gate2Growth Incubator Forum is to contribute to raising professional standards and the exchange of experience and good practice among incubators at European level.

This will be achieved through:
- Networking with other European incubators. The exchange of good practice at European level may lead to a better understanding of the incubation industry and bring new ideas for improving professional standards.
Good Practice Workshops Members will enjoy sponsored attendance at Good practice Workshops. Promotion, practical support, good practice results and lessons learned will be provided and disseminated through the www.gate2growth.com website.

Training Programme: A Training Programme addressed at junior staff will be established in order to provide them with the knowledge and skills required to improve their achievements in the context of the incubation industry.

Secondment Programme: The Secondment Programme is also addressed at junior staff and is based on an exchange between two members of the Incubator Forum.

Gate2Growth Incubator Forum AwardsGate2Growth Incubator Forum Awards will be delivered during the Gate2Growth Annual Partnering Event. This Award distribution aims at emphasising outstanding results achieved by a Member in one specific aspect of his work in the incubation industry. Participation in these activities will be open to Members of the Gate2Growth Incubator Forum.

Can become Member legal entities that comply with the following criteria:
- Having requested to become a member;
- On a first come first served basis;
- Are based in the EU and/or associated states;
- Undertake to fulfil all Membership obligations listed in the Membership agreement- Operate a professional, dedicated incubator structure;
- Dispose of its own budget and staff, and have started the incubation activities, as demonstrated by a listing of the companies/projects in portfolio;
- Have the operation linked to higher education or research institutes and their statutes must include spin-offs from universities and research as one of their main target groups.

At least a 50% focus on early stage technology defined as companies that:
1) are less than 6 years old;
2) have fewer than 25 employees at the time of acceptance;
3) are independent;
4) show demonstrable evidence of innovation through patents, RTD awards, national schemes or equivalent;
- A geographic focus on the EU and/or associated states (target minimum 85%);
- Not being a Member of another thematic network of the Gate2Growth Initiative.

Members and their designated representatives can participate in and be elected to the network management structures as indicated for the duration of their membership. They can participate in the network activities and receive Community contributions.

Specific benefit entitlements:
Directory and newsletter. Full and Associate Members will receive the Membership directory and newsletter. Gate2Growth Portal content and functions. Members will be entitled to free access to the publicly available toolbox, publicly accessible interactive area, and member-only areas of the Gate2Growth portal. Members may enjoy favourable rates on interactive services to be offered through the portal.

Facilities will include:
- Toolbox: Business plan development templates and spreadsheets, to which Member dealflow can be referred if appropriate; Contact lists and directories;
- Publicly accessible interactive area: Industry news section allowing listing of Member press releases and Member-hosted events, success stories from Member portfolio companies. The network Secretariat will post the regular network newsletter here;
- Interactive matching and on-line technology brokering section: Network Member full representation in investor profile directory. If charged for matching, technology brokering or deal alert services, Members should enjoy preferential rates to be negotiated;
- Member only area: Fully searchable version of Membership directory, information on network meetings and general announcements, contractual information (FAQ, cost claim and activity reporting forms, exchange rates for claims, statistics).
