Objective Wind turbine technology adapted for icing conditions has been demonstrated at some sites in Europe, on Nordic hills and in the Alps. The project will carry out coordinated monitoring on wind power plants to validate the feasibility of cold climate wind turbine technology. Based on these measurements improved commercial tools to predict the effect of icing at any site on loads, power curves and power production and also improve certification guidelines for wind turbines designed for cold climate operation. The work will focus on producing practical, technical, operational and scientific information to manufacturers, operators, power companies and other users to: encourage the exploitation of the very large wind energy potential available in the area of cold and icing climate, disseminate reliable information of needs concerning wind power production under cold and icing conditions.
